Ben Lawers: The Ontology of a Mountain
How does a mountain contribute to the quality of your life? How can we measure its powerful ontological quality when walking? What significant moments are we searching for...? One way is to walk and climb it. Photographs & Text (C) 2019 Patrick Phillips #eternalmountain #benlawers #winterwalk #ontology #mountainontology #nature #sanctuary #eternal #ice

SceneStirling - Climate Change: Creativity & Survival
John Berger the Art Critic once said in a TV interview: “This creativity, which we are so attracted by in artists, which basically is why we are so interested in artists, this creativity, which in fact is potentially in everybody, will find it’s expression in life itself. I see art as we understand it as a tragic phenomenon.” Climate change. We see, touch, taste, smell and hear about it every day. Mostly through media platforms. But we also know of its biological and spiritua

Perthshire Magazine - Rediscover Your Connection with Nature Through Ecotourism
Firstly, what is ecotourism? Before anything else, it represents the human need to travel. We’ll never stop doing so because it’s an intrinsic part of our being. We love to explore and discover what might be new to us, whether it be the known, unknown or rediscovered. It is that great sense of being awakened—we all need that too. The International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-be

Photographs from local Wildlife Photographer - Richard Phillips
I met up with local wildlife photographer Richard Phillips, who had an incredible range of photographs that represent the rich Flora and Fauna of Breadalbane. I was amazed at how in such a short time he has lived in Killin (just over a year) that he had already managed to capture so much. Below are a few photographs, chosen carefully to represent not only Nature's bio-diversity, but often the unconscious artistic process of photographs we discover when outside - in Wilderness

Part I: "Cup and ring marks"...why not "Sun and ring marks"?
It's quite confusing at first when you hear, or read the title, "Cup and ring marks" to describe an art form of rock carvings from 4,500 years ago. Therefore, I think it was lazy of art historians (and academics) to have done so, why? Because it lacks imagination. Why not "Sun and ring marks" instead? It would make a lot more sense. It was too easy to say "cup" and "ring" when the time came for them to be named. Furthermore, it is to blur this precious, and unique art into so

Forgotten village of Glen Lochay - Tirai
On maps today, they are simply known as shielings. Without roofs, they can't be considered as a 'bothy' either. In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a 'shieling' is defined as 'a mountain hut used as a shelter by shepherds'. Or from another perspective, 'a summer pasture in the mountains'. Today, in our culture a 'hut' would be considered a "man-cave". When you encounter such a place, all one can do is to place a certain wonder at what happened? How did this highland village b

Fingal's Grave - Fionn mac Cumhaill
This is my first post for Eternal Mountain and I've begun already this week to take a closer look into the legendary Irish hero, Fionn mac Cumhaill (leader of the group of warriors known as the Fianna Éireann) and understand his connection with Killin. More information coming soon... #adventure #outdoors #fingalsgrave #eternalmountain #fionnmaccumhaill #warrior #celticmythology #irishfolklore #irishliterature #localhistory #ecotourism
